Learning to dance gives you the greatest freedom of all: to express with your whole self the person you are." -Melissa Hayden
About Dancing Classrooms
Launched in 1994, Dancing Classrooms last year served over 40,000 children in over 500 schools in over 25 cities across the country and around the world. It is an arts-in-education program that uses ballroom dance to develop social skills and enhance academic success for 5th grade students in participating schools. As seen in the documentary film Mad Hot Ballroom, Dancing Classrooms is a 10-week, 20-lesson in-school residency program that benefits every child, regardless of his or her background or experience.
Dancing Classrooms creates an atmosphere that allows all students to step out and shine. It focuses physical energy and increases health through the joy of movement. It builds self-esteem and interactive social skills as it improves children’s confidence and ability to relate to others. It enhances an environment of respectful teamwork that is so important to successful learning.
